National Census of Manufacturing Establishments 2011-2012, Tenth Round (Quinquinnial Census)

This file contains data related to sections 1, 3 to 17 of the questionnaire. The first section is about introduction of the establishment, legal status, ownership, intellectual property and standardization logo of the establishment. The major industrial activity codes are recorded in section 4 following NSIC.

Section 14 captures information about the production capacity utilization. The production capacity utilization of establishment is categorized into 5 groups. Section 15 covers the cost of installation of equipments for controlling pollution including recycling expenses. The major factors affecting the manufacturing estalishment is capture under Section 16. is about problem faced by the establishment during the reference period. This is a precoded question with multiple choices.

It contains the information regarding number of male and female employee, wage/labour (in thousand rupees) and amount of facility received by the local ie nepali employee.
Persons engaged are classified into the following groups:

1. Working proprietors and Partners
2. Unpaid family and other workers
3. Working directors
4. Administrative employees
5. Technical employees
6. Operatives (production) workers
7. Casual/seasonal employees

It contains the information regarding number of male and female employee, wage/labour (in thousand rupees) and amount of facility received by the local ie foreign employee.
Persons engaged are classified into the following groups:

1. Working proprietors and Partners

4. Administrative employees
5. Technical employees
6. Operatives (production) workers

The file contains data related to section 5.1 of the questionnaire. It contains the information regarding the total annual fuel purchased quantity as well as in the total cost (in thousand rupees). The amount of Fuelwood and Charcoal/coalis; Disel, petrol and Kerosene; Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is in thousand rupees per quintal, thousand per litre and thousands per Kg respectively.

The variable "FUEL_ID" is categorized into the following mentioned 8 types of fuel.

1. Firewood
2. Charcoal/coal
3. Diseal oil
4. Petrol
5. Kerosene
6. Liquified gas (L.P.G.)
7. Electricity purchased
8. Other fuel purchased

The file contains data related to section 5.2 of the questionnaire. The variable "WATER_ELEC_ID" is categorized into the following category:

1. Water purchase
2. Water produced/pumped up/collectted/drawn in (for own purpose)
3. Electricity purchased (for own purpose)
4. Electricity generated

This file contains data related to sub-section 6.1 of the questionnaire. The topic of the section is 'Expenditure on industrial services'. Industrial services are classified into 3 subgroups as follows:

1. Payments made to other firms or individuals for work performed on sub-contract or other conditions
2. Payments made for repair and maintenance work
3. Payments made for resale (traded goods i.e. goods sold in the same condition as purchased)


The file contains a variable named "EIS_ID" which constitutes the classification of industrial services.

This file contains data related to sub-section 6.2 of the questionnaire. The topic of the section is 'Income from industrial services'. Industrial services are classified into 3 subgroups as follows:

1. Receipts for contract work down (on goods not owned by the company)
2. Receipts for repair and maintenance work done
3. Receipts from sale of traded goods (i.e.purchased in the same condition as sold)


The file contains a variable named 'IIS_ID' which constitutes the classification of industrial services.

This file contains data related to section 7 of the questionnaire. The topic of the section is 'Purchase of Raw material'.

All the raw material purchased by each establishment are recorded in the variable 'RAW_ID' and CPC 2.0 coding scheme for raw material.

The Quantity and amount of raw material purchased is classified into 2 categories i.e. 'Within Nepal' and 'Out of the country purchase'.

This file contains data related to the section 8 of the questionnaire. It has data about production and sales of each product for each establishment.

All the production and sale of products by each establishment are recorded in the variable 'PROD_ID' and CPC 2.0 coding scheme for production.

The Sale of Quantity and amount of products is classified into 2 categories i.e. 'Within Nepal' and 'Out of the country purchase'.

This file contains data related to section 10 of the questionnaire. This file provides the non-industrial expenses of the establishment.
Non-industrial expenses are recorded within the variable named "ENIS_ID"' in 14 categories defined as below :

1. Rental of Land
2. Rental of warehouses, industrial space and machinery
3. Rental or lease of machinery and equipment
4. Other rent
5. Payment of travelling costs for products
6. Payment of Insurance Premiums
7. Payment of Communication charges (postage, couriers, telephone, fax, email, internet etc.)
8. Payments made for printing and stationery
9. Payments for auditing ad accountants' fees
10. Payments for other professional services
11. Payments made for advertising and promotion (excluding printing)
12. Payment of royalties, copyrights, patents, etc.
13. Payments for education and training
14. Other payments

It is related with section 9 of the questionnaire and provides the stock information for each establishment. The Stock iis classified in 7 category as below.

1. Raw materials
2. Fuels
3. Semi-finished goods
4. Finished goods
5. Goods purchased for resale
6. Capital manufacturing work in progress
7. Any other stocks

It is related with section 11 of the questionnaire and provides the receipt information from non-industrial services for each establishment. it captures following 10 categories.

1. Receive from Rent (Land)
2. Received from Rent (House, Warehouse and Mechinary)
3. Receive from Rent (Transportation Equipment)
4. Received from Rent (Other)
5. Received from Agency Commission
6. Received from Government Export Grant
7. Receive from Contract and Commission
8. Receive from Import Discount
9. Receive from Economic Grant
10. Receive from Others

This file contains data related to the section 12 of the questionnaire. The topic of the section is 'Indirect Taxes'. The variable named 'TAX_ID' categorizes indirect taxes into five groups given below:

1. Value Added Tax (VAT)
2. Sales/Excise Duty
3. Export Duty
4. Import Duty
5. Other Indirect Tax

The file contains Section 13 of the questionnaire. It has classified fixed assets into the following 11 groups:

1. Land
2. Building & other construction
3. Machin & other equipment
4. Computer & related machinery
5. Transportation equipment
6. Furniture
7. Research & development
8. Mining and evaluation
9. Software & database
10. Trademark, Patent & Design
11. Other

it contain the information regarding the utilization of production capacity of the establishment such as total days, hours, shifts that the establishment run, percent utilized out of the total capacity of the establishment, fulfill the demand of the market, the reasons if the establishment could not fulfill the market demand. The reasons for not fulfilling the market demand is post-coded due to the open ended questionnaire.

It contains information environment sector such as whether the establishment have pollution control machine, cost of environment protection, cost for reuse or recycle the metal or non-metal scraps, cost of recycling and whether the establishment have received pollution control certificate.

It is related with section 15.2 of the questionnaire and has the following 6 pollution control category.

2. Smoke, and dust controller

5. Pond for polluted water
6. Solid waste management
