The survey has adopted stratified cluster sampling design. Total sample size is1736. The sampling frame has been prepared by the list of affiliated vehicles' owners obtained from their respective associations. The weight of the vehicles by its type was generated by using the number of vehicles registered in the Transport Management Department. The reference period of the survey was 2011-12. The data collection was carried out during January to July in 2013. Branch Statistics Offices were mobilized for data collection. Altogether, 57 enumerators and supervisors including 12 females had been involved during data collection phase. The statistical report of the survey contains 3 chapters. Second and third chapter describe survey results containing 10 and 19 tables respectively. The survey reveals that there were totally 118544 public vehicles in Nepal during the reference period. Buses (32 percent) accounted for highest number of vehicles following by trucks (22 percent), tractors (14 percent) and jeeps (9 percent). There were 89 percent of the vehicles that were running during the reference year 2011-12 had been manufactured in India. Mean years of vehicles that are operated since manufactured is 8 years. Tourist vehicles were found to be the oldest in terms of years of manufacturing (20.9 years). The mean period of operation of the public transport vehicles in Nepal is 238 days in a year. Water tankers were found to be the most operated vehicles (317 days) whereas petrol tankers were operated 136 days in a reference year. About 15 percent of the entrepreneurs suggested to improve the condition of the roads. Almost 8 percent of them reported the restriction of strikes in transport sector and 7.2 percent reported the strict compliance of traffic rules. Sampling

Sampling Procedure
The sampling design adopted in Nepal Public Land Transport Survey 2013 was stratified cluster sampling. For the sample selection purpose, 3 ecological belts (Mountains, Hills and Plains) were considered as domains and 10 types of vehicles were taken as strata. From each domain, Vehicle entrepreneurs represented by unique vehicle number were selected proportionately. It was single stage sampling design. Total sample size was 1736 vehicles' entrepreneurs. The size of sample was representative for national level estimates. During data collection phase, replacement of sample was allowed for "not found cases" from similar domain and strata.
Response Rate
All samples were interviewed successfully. Therefore, there was 100 percent the response rate.
Weighting
Sample weights were calculated by using the number of vehicles registered in the Transport Management Department.

Supervision
An intensive supervision over the field work was carried out by the supervisory staff comprising district level officers and supervisors. The officers of Trade Statistics Section made the overall management, control, and supervision of the field work.
Data Collection Notes
The complete list of the vehicles was prepared based on their operation and affiliation to their respective association of the vehicles from various parts of the country. The listing operation was done in 2012. The questionnaire and interviewer's manual of the survey was edited or modified several times to make them as clear, practical and appropriate as possible by incorporating feedbacks received from the members of associations and enterpreneurs of many kinds of vehicles. For such meetings, the officers of Trade Statistics Section had visited some major cities of the country.

33 officers, and 57 investigators were involved for field work. Among them there were 12 females including 1 officer. Two levels of training were organized to train them. Firstly, a master training was organized for the head of the Branch Statistics Offices on the third week of January 2013 (16-19 January) at Butwal (Rupandehi) and on the fourth week of January 2013 (27-30 January) at Itahari (Sunsari) for the officers who were working at the district offices. The officers of the Trade Statistics Section were the trainers. The second level training was also organized in two places. The duration of the training was 3 days each (22-22 January 2013) at Butwal (Rupandehi) and (31 January-2 February 2013) at Itahari (Sunsari) for the field supervisors and enumerators. The supervisors and enumerators were also briefed and trained to fill up different questionnaires designed for the survey work. They were given guidelines in the training to maintain consistency of procedures employed and uniformity of concepts and definitions used. Each supervisor and enumerator was provided instructions manuals for their better understanding of the objectives of conducting the survey.

Nepal Public Land Transport Survey 2013 was carried out in 6 months. The management of the field work team was done by the Branch Statistics Offices (BSOs). The reference period of the survey was the last fiscal year preceding the interview with the transport entrepreneur 2011/12 (2068/69 BS). The field staffs were selected from Central Bureau of Statistics and Branch Statistical Offices. The officers of BSO were also deputed for the district level supervision of the respective districts.
