Individual ownership dominates at 98%, with male operators running 79.5% of total farms and female operators running 20.5%. The workforce comprises 63,881 individuals, featuring 58.5% male and 41.5% female employment. Production heavily favours meat, with 92.0% of farms dedicated to broilers, followed by 7.4% for egg production, and 0.5% for hatcheries.\n\nThe industry demonstrates significant financial scale. On the reference day, the total poultry count stood at 33,465,991, while the cumulative annual stock reached 127,698,888 birds. Annual sales generated approximately NPR 61 billion from meat, NPR 14.8 billion from eggs, NPR 10.2 billion from chicks, and NPR 1 billion from manure. To support this output, the sector holds fixed assets valued at NPR 61.5 billion and incurred NPR 79 billion in total annual expenses.\n\nDespite substantial production, critical gaps exist in financial security and risk management. Only 37.3% of farms utilise institutional credit, a mere 4.1% possess insurance coverage, and only 5.6% received government subsidies in the past three years. Furthermore, among those farms that suffered, 51.2% of farms suffered stock losses due to diseases or external factors. Looking forward, while 35.0% of operators plan to expand, market shortages (45.0%) and capital deficits (20.5%) remain the primary drivers for those downsizing or closing down.","time_periods":[{"start":"2024-12-01","end":"2024-12-30","cycle":""}],"coll_dates":[{"start":"2025-02-13","end":"2025-05-14","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"Nepal","abbreviation":"NPL"}],"geog_coverage":"Field work of this survey covered 75 districts out of 77 districts of Nepal.","analysis_unit":"National and Province Level","universe":"All registered or unregistered commercial poultry firms who raise 500 poultry year round or 200 poultry in last lot and who produce chicken meat, eggs and baby chick","data_kind":"Sample survey data [ssd]","notes":"The scope of the Nepal Commercial Poultry Survey 2025 includes:\n- Number of Poultry raising for meat product, for eggs product and for baby chick product.\n- Qty of poultry meet produced\n- Qty (Crate) of eggs produced\n- Number of baby chick produced from hatchery\n- Employment generation in the poultry farming sector.\n- Expenditure, Income and Gross Value Added in poultry farming sector"},"method":{"data_collection":{"data_collectors":[{"name":"National Statistics Office","abbreviation":"NSO","affiliation":"Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM)"}],"sampling_procedure":"- List of 22928 poultry farmer with number of poultry was gather before sampling design.\n- Two stage stratified sampling was employed\n- All together 3766 poultry farmer was selected from 584 strata","coll_mode":"Face-to-face [f2f]","research_instrument":"The hard copy questionnaire (18 pages) was prepared and information was collected using the hard copy questionnaire.
